This
page has been inspired by the recent enthusiasm on the MuddlePuddle
List for Miquon and Singapore maths, particularly using Cuisinaire
Rods. The first few links will hopefully help you find what
we did, in terms of equipment and information. Then there is
some Montessori maths information and plenty of Worksheet, online
games and general information at the bottom. For more of the
same, follow the Resource and Activity links above the title.
Curricula
and Materials.
Sonlight
A great site where you can buy miquon, singapore and saxon maths
curricula, but it has far more on offer too - apart form other
books and teaching methods, it has great descriptions and sample
sheets of work books. Also has a message board for getting help
from other parents.
School
Surplus Somewhere to buy all sorts of home ed supplies but
a particularly good source of maths materials from NES and Hope
without paying full price!
QEDGriffin
Lots of books to buy and good descriptions but via email you
can buy the full Miquon curriculum.
Most
famous for their maths rods, (similar in style to some Montessori
products), there is lots to look at and absorb here. Its a little
tough to navigate but worth perservering!
Montessori
Maths.
Montessori
being my main passion, and fitting in very well with Miquon,
I have included links to the best site i know for describing
how to break down the skills required for getting started. I
hope to add a page, with a little help from my friends, on Montessori
maths, of my own, when i get the time and knowledge.
Shu-Chen
Jenny - Maths activities These lead on from the Sensorial
Activities so its worth having a good look at both to get
an idea of the progression. i think this is one of the best
Montessori sites available. For more, follow the Montessori
link on the top bar of this page.
Also
- a brief guide - to be expanded - on this site at Montessori
Maths
MathLeague
Although it's aimed at the US grade4-8 age range, this is useful
for the help and explanation sections - good for mum and dad
as the "whyyyyyyyy.???" questions start coming!
M&M
lesson plan This really made me giggle - its aimed at a
higher age range but would scale down well - and its a good
reason for eating chocolate!
Maths
Links Games aimed at 8-11 year olds but might well work
for a younger child too.
CoolMath
I need to look at this more - but it seems fun!
Under5's
Not specifically maths but excellent worksheets available -
all fun - which can be useful for pen control, number recognition
and counting - all handy to build on before starting on more
formal work.
