It is possible to spend a fortune on books that tell you how or reassure you about HE or education in general. After discussion with the MuddlePuddle list, i list below the books i would not be without on my bookshelf. i hope that i can save you buying the duds. Incidently, if you buy via these links, you will indirectly donate a few pence to this site - so if you do, thank you i list the books in order of how useful i found them to be, with a total spend after the ones i consider to have been utterly invaluable to me. It is interesting to me that although the majority of the MuddlePuddlers do not directly use Montessori methods, many of them found Montessori-approach books to have been exceptionally helpful to them.

One-to-one: A Practical Guide to Learning at home age 0-11 - Gareth Lewis £10.00
Free Range Education: How Home Education Works - edited by Terri Dowty £12.99
Basic Montessori: Learning Activities for under 5's - by David Gettman £9.45
The Unschooling Handbook - Mary Griffith £9.32

The above 4 books equal a total of £41.76 which qualifies for Amazons free postage deal and in my humble opinion will be money wll spent.

The books below are in no particular order, but come highly recommended, either by me or another muddlepuddler.

Teach Your Own - John Holt
How Children Learn (Penguin Education) - John Holt
Montessori Read and Write: A Parent's to Literacy for Children - Lynne Lawrence
Montessori Play and Learn: A Practical Guide for parents and Children - Lesley Britton
For the Children's Sake - Susan Schaeffer Macaulay (currently out of print) Charlotte Mason
Teaching Montessori in the Home - Pre-school years - Elazbeth Hainstock
Homeschooling: The Early Years: - Linda Dobson
The Montessori Method (indirectly - two of her books in one)
Montessori: a Modern Approach - Paula Polk Lillard
Doing It Their Way: Home-based Education and Autonomous Learning - Jan Fortune-Wood
Those Unschooled Minds: Home-educated children grow up - Julie Webb
Homeschooling: A Patchwork of Days - Nancy Lande
Educating Children at Home - Alan Thomas
